Open State: Tait Showroom Talk & Tour

THURSDAY, MARCH 22ND, 11AM & 2PM SESSIONS
MELBOURNE DESIGN WEEK 2018

As part of the inaugural Melbourne Design Week Tait will once again take part in Open State, an initiative presented by Open House Melbourne. Taking over the city and beyond, the Open State program reveals and celebrates a network of leading Victorian design innovators including commissioners of design, designers, design studios, design researchers, design educators, and manufacturers. This year’s instalment of Open State sees Tait swing open the doors of our new flagship showroom on Smith St in Fitzroy – offering guests the opportunity to experience the complex process of design, prototyping and manufacturing first-hand with Tait founder, Gordon Tait.

In 2018 Melbourne Design Week looks at the theme “Design Effects” and delves into the wide-reaching nature of design in its broadest sense. From the physical to the creation of experiences, services and identities, it asks: what effect does design have on the environment around us? How is design a catalyst for change?

In addressing the need for design durability and product longevity as a means of minimising excess consumption in a throw-away culture, Tait demonstrate a layered, sustainable design approach with the notion “buy once, buy well”. Encompassing these values, Tait design outdoor products which are timeless in design with refined functionality-designed to last a lifetime.

Insider tip: Tait will be premiering a brand-new collection designed in collaboration with a prominent Australian designer.
