PENTHOUSE ELEVATION

Chalk in New Farm was delivered by award-winning design, development and construction company Graya, specialists in luxury residential projects. They engaged boutique design studio, Studio Collective, to elevate Chalk’s 2-storey penthouse apartment through carefully curated furniture and styling.

The interiors have been expertly shaped to reflect the refined taste of the Graya brand, and the future resident. And beyond, the undeniable hero is the private rooftop with breathtaking city views. ‘We knew the rooftop had to be a show-stopping feature, so we carefully selected furniture that would not only complement, but also elevate the luxurious calibre of the apartment, creating a truly unforgettable experience,’ shares interior designer Olivia McDonald.

SCULPTURAL STATEMENT

The curvaceous form of the building was the point of inspiration for the outdoor furniture selection. ‘Especially in the hero areas, the Tait pieces were a natural fit for the sculptural beauty of Chalk,’ Olivia says. ‘On the balcony, we wanted low-profile armchairs that wouldn’t obstruct the stunning views – yet still feel elegant from every angle. The Billy loungers checked all the boxes, offering complementary tones and a refined silhouette. I’m a firm believer in consistency, so being able to incorporate them on the rooftop dining setting as well created a cohesive flow,’ she adds.

‘We also wanted to make a bold statement as soon as you step onto the rooftop. And for that, the Voom lounger was a no-brainer. It’s sculptural, looks stunning from every angle, and is incredibly comfortable – truly a triple threat.’

HANDS-ON APPEAL

Whilst the formal aesthetics worked well, the sustainability and local manufacture credentials were also drawcards. ‘Sustainability is a core value for us, so I really appreciate that Tait makes a conscious effort to source locally and reduce transit emissions,’ says Olivia.

Local manufacture doesn’t only equal less emissions. ‘The fact that the products are Australian made is a huge factor, as it allows for quick turnaround times,’ she adds. ‘This not only provides peace of mind, but also ensures every product is crafted with care. Additionally, the flexibility to accommodate the evolving needs of a project is invaluable.’ Making locally also enables greater creative possibilities, with Olivia adding, ‘Tait was able to customise the powder coat colours to align with the project’s aesthetic – all done in record time.’
