Introducing Fearon

From Saturday 8 to Saturday 22 November, the Tait Melbourne showroom hosts ‘I’m a mess, but this isn’t’. The quirky exhibition name is an insight into the mind and world of founder, Jack Fearon, who is quickly and quietly developing a distinctive aesthetic for indoor/outdoor furniture, ‘ready to weather whatever’. The brand’s bold forms, warm detailing and playful colour is gaining a cult following from those in the know.

Fearon’s furniture feels both universal and personal. ‘I try and make sure there’s not too much emphasis on my brand,’ says Jack. ‘I want it to fit to anybody, any space, so it’s often a simple product on its own.’ To inject the personality, people can choose from 13 colours ‘for calm corners, loud lounges, and everything in between.’

The designs are highly functional, developed from a personal need. ‘All the stuff we were making was stuff I wanted for my house and couldn’t find,’ Jack shares. The result is a suite of versatile, durable, beautifully resolved forms that ‘refuse to be ordinary’, indoors and outdoors, all year round.

A rare real-life immersion

Whilst the brand launched in Melbourne back in 2018, this is the first time Fearon’s range will be properly shown here, as Jack is now based on the Gold Coast. Most of the studio’s work has lived online until now, aside from a handful of gallery installations and a brief showing at Melbourne Design Week. This time, it’s different: real products, real finishes, and real conversations.

Visitors can expect to see familiar forms reimagined in vibrant, experimental colours, a range of powder coat finishes, and limited pieces available for purchase directly from the showroom floor. It’s also a chance to meet Jack, hear the stories behind the products (proudly made in Australia by TaitForm), and explore how customisation can make each piece your own.

The world of Fearon

Jack’s background in art, photography and film gives the installation an edge that goes beyond furniture. ‘It’s more like an experiment,’ he says, a playful blend of product, design, and creative expression that invites curiosity. With most of Fearon’s production now based in Melbourne – and a lot of the brand’s clients and following – the timing feels right for a pop-up. ‘We’ve been sending most of our stuff here anyway,’ Jack shares. ‘Now people can finally see it in person.’ Whether you’re an original Fearon fan or just discovering the studio for the first time (perhaps as a finalist in this year’s prestigious Rigg Design Prize), you’re invited to a playful immersion in a design philosophy that values simplicity, adaptability, and the joy of making things well.
