Get set for A Life Outside this summer

The season of holidays, festivities and an easier, more relaxed way of life is upon us. We’ve gathered some tips and inspiration for your outdoor spaces to help make the most of your summer.

Relax and kick back

If ever there was a time to lay back on a sunlounge, summertime is it. When the days are long and the to-do list is deliciously short, our capacity to relax reaches an all-time high. Looking for something playful to help reach a state of bliss? Billy, available in metal or timber, features retro styling and details that recall a simpler time. This simplicity belies its intelligent design – with a unique mechanism design which can achieve five headrest heights, a slide out table with a carefully considered slot for a wine glass and optional wheels. For maximum elegance, choose Trace, with its upholstered cushion and refined luxury offering an alluring form for any pleasure-seeker. For the clean and cool design DNA, the Linear Sunlounge is your piece, with a minimalist, clean-lined aesthetic. Don’t be fooled by its classic buttoned-up appearance though – look closer and you’ll notice signature irregular slats that add optical texture to its form, a perfectly understated detail. Finally, a slightly left-of-field option is to position the versatile Voom Lounger and Ottoman in a sunlounge arrangement – a great option where flexibility and space efficiency is front of mind.

Prompt spot cleaning

With socialising at its peak, it can be tempting to leave the mess to be dealt with ‘tomorrow’. However, to keep your Tait pieces sparkling for years to come, it’s best to wash away and wipe down surfaces of any red wine, food, oil and drink spills as they occur. For powder coated, electropolished and fired surfaces, wash with warm soapy water and mild detergent using a soft cloth. Spills on compact laminate surfaces can be wiped up using a damp (preferably microfibre) cloth. For persistent stains use hot water and household detergent, then remove with clean water or window cleaning agent; repeat several times if necessary and rub surface dry with an absorbent clean cloth (we prefer paper towel) to prevent streaks or smears. If you notice any stubborn stains on porcelain finishes, use a gentle, every day, non-abrasive, multipurpose spray cleaner, sugar soap, cream-based house cleaners or bicarbonate soda mixed with warm water. Always rinse well with clean water after using any soaps and cleaning fluids, and ensure any porcelain surfaces are thoroughly dried after cleaning. For fabrics, we recommend scraping any stains or spills off the surface of the fabric and carefully spot clean with soapy water.

Timber care

As a natural finish, timber requires particular care, though its unique markings and general weathering are a big part of its appeal. Wash surfaces thoroughly with a soft cloth, using warm soapy water and always rinse well with water to remove any remaining soap before allowing to dry. An oiled table will absorb liquids less quickly, keeping it clean for longer. Our Spotted Gum finish comes pre-oiled, and you can also oil our Accoya finish to enhance its appearance and integrity. Our Exterior Oil finishes (available in 6 sustainable colours) are specially formulated for high-performance timbers. Note, that the hotter the climate and the greater the exposure to the sun, the more frequently your timber will need to be oiled.  We recommend a quarterly application in a harsh climate or heavily used environment if you wish to maintain the original timber colour.

Custom outdoor furniture covers fit snugly and help protect as the first line of defense against the elements.

Protective cover up

We all know the importance of covering up with sunscreen as a protective measure. The same goes for outdoor furniture. Although our pieces are crafted in durable materials, covering them securely provides extra protection during those summer storms. You can move your pieces under shelter or into temporary storage, or cover up with any standard material you may already have eg. tarpaulin. Alternatively, you can choose a premium cover made by us to fit your Tait piece like a glove, made from Nylon Oxford 400 Denier water resistant fabric and crafted by our expert upholstery team to securely close, fasten and protect. Contact our friendly team for details and a quote.
