Design Features & Innovation
Drawing on our metal crafting expertise, Rockpool’s frame is developed on the tube bending machine, with skilful welds completing the form. Achieving the curvature, along with the discreet and secure back panel attachment, was a complex process requiring significant R&D. Adam describes further design considerations: ‘The seat depths and angles were carefully tested to allow for a relaxed yet upright posture, making the pieces suitable for both lounging and social settings. The way the back cushion integrates into the frame not only enhances the aesthetic but also improves lumbar support.’
Mokum’s new ‘Pahi’, a plain-woven fabric in an earthy colour palette, was chosen to complement the curved form. Its slightly uneven weave with subtle highlights ‘Gives the fabric a jewel like richness and depth, perfect for the ‘Rockpool’ forms,’ Susan shares. ‘The extensive colour range of Pahi has allowed us to present two-tone upholstery design with a beautiful stitched seam detail adding a subtle layering effect.’
Like all Tait collections, Rockpool is designed for easy refurbishment. Upholstery covers can be removed, and the frame can be easily re-powdercoated as there are no encumbrances or need to remove any rivets or screws prior.
