If you’ve seen Breathe Architecture’s brilliant Home Truth NGV Architecture commission, you’ll know that the historic average size of Australian homes is being rightfully interrogated. And amidst a growing population and subsequent housing crisis, an imperative and appreciation for small-footprint living has emerged.
We’d been thinking on these ideas ourselves over the last couple of years, reflecting that our last few upholstered collections eg. Trace and Voom, are quite large. So about 6 months ago, we set out to make a more compact outdoor furniture collection to cater for the size-conscious.
Of course, we sat down with our longtime friend and collaborator Adam Goodrum, to map out the brief and conceptualise some responses. ‘The idea of designing a collection that was both compact and sculptural was exciting,’ shares Adam. ‘The challenge of balancing elegance with durability—creating pieces that feel organic and soft, yet are built to withstand the elements—was something I was eager to achieve.’
Adam started by sketching freeform shapes that echoed fluidity. ‘Early on, I knew I wanted a visual lightness—something that felt sculptural but also inviting,’ Adam recalls. ‘The concept then evolved into a series of interconnected curves, with an emphasis on negative space to create a sense of airiness.’
Adam was inspired by forms of naturally weathered rockpools and the way water carves smooth, undulating shapes into stone. ‘There is a softness to those forms that feels welcoming and timeless,’ Adam describes. ‘That idea of organic, flowing shapes influenced the collection.’
Creative Director Susan Tait agrees that rockpools hold a wealth of inspiration. ‘You never know what jewel is waiting to be discovered,’ Susan shares. ‘On coastal holidays, it’s fair to say I’m completely obsessed, taking far too many photos to record all the beautiful colours and textures. It amazes me how many warm hues and curved shapes are to be found. As well as the expected blues and greens, you can also find the softest of pinks through to bright orange, and rocks smoothed by the ocean in red, brown and burgundy’.

Selected pieces will be on display in our Melbourne showroom at Melbourne Design Week. And one more detail we can reveal is that the collection will feature a brand-new Mokum fabric called ‘Pahi’. This plain-woven fabric was chosen to complement the collection’s curved forms, and the earthy colour palette.
‘Pahi has a beautiful handle,’ Susan enthuses. ‘It’s a slightly uneven weave with subtle highlights created by weaving different thread colours through the main colours. This gives the fabric a jewel-like richness and depth.’
