Support the Grasslands Documentary

Good things come in small packages – help spread the word about Australia’s humble remedy for food security, biodiversity and climate challenges.

Forget Jack and his magic beans. Native grasses pack a punch when it comes to many of the issues facing our society.

We’re just discovering these unassuming species and the critical role they play in our past, current and future ecosystems. So we’ve joined the Grassy Movement, filled with friends who also love A Life Outside – and want to protect it. Yes, we’ve joined the choir of garden designers, botanic artists, green thumbs and citizen scientists celebrating the majesty of our grasslands.

Co-Directors Lee Ramseyer Bache and Ivan Masic may not be your typical ‘grassies’. Together, they run Little Projector Company, which collaborates with artists and communities to create light and projection art. And they also work together under Lightworks Studios, a production company that creates films that heal the land, share culture, and foster unity.

Grasslands is their first feature film, featuring evocative storytelling about the future of food farming, climate and culture, presented by First Nations people on Country. It brings together science, history, business and the physical and spiritual connection between humans and the wild and domesticated grasses we depend on.

In the words of the Directors, the Grasslands Documentary is:

‘Structured as a visual journey across Australia in the style of a detective story, the film blends traditional documentary with conceptual animation sequences and high-end visual effects to create a vision board of how native grasslands could reimagine Australia for future generations. The story highlights how Australia’s native grasslands hold the key to the future of Indigenous land management, agriculture, food production, bushfire prevention, water security, biodiversity and healthy Country.’
