Inspired by Australia’s surf culture, Trent Jansen applied science to his design by researching wave formations and linear diagrams. Studying the energy and pull of spiralling water spouts as part of the creative process behind the Tidal Lounger – an ultramodern outdoor lounge chair – Jansen’s design intelligence is further evidenced in material selection, form and function.
The sturdy wire frame is expertly crafted into the gently undulating frames of the collection pieces. Tidal is a masterful intersection of raw materiality and a dynamic yet lithe aesthetic.
Upholstered cushioning for seating and lounging promise enduring outdoor comfort.

Wave Formations
The Tidal Collection design is based on the formation stages of a wave as it rolls toward the shore: The Tidal Sunlounge is the far out wave that slowly builds beyond the breakers. The Tidal Lounger is a curling wave at the place in the set where surfers usually lurk; and the Tidal Chair is the close-out that breaks on the sand. This collection makes use of the waves at the heart of Australian beachside culture and transforms these ephemeral forms, created by the tide and the sand, into sculptural, functional objects.

At Tait, we make products for life. Our products are crafted from high-performance materials designed to withstand the elements across our diverse Australian climate zones. We make design decisions with both form and function in mind, combining timeless and cutting-edge designs with beautiful finishes in order to elevate your outdoor (or indoor) experience.
Our collections are handcrafted from weather-resistant materials, making each piece a durable choice. In order to maintain their look and feel over time, Tait items need ongoing care and maintenance. The frequency of maintenance will vary depending on the level of care you want to provide, your personal standards and requirements as well as the environment within which the product lives.

We finish making our products by hand, and know they can live a long and useful life when equally cared for in your hands.
