Through a simple series of cuts, folds and joins, Seam is materialised with elegant and precise form. The Seam collection was conceived with a design process not dissimilar to the way in which a piece of fabric is tailored into a form-fitting garment, a refined ‘seam’ along the spine of the chair making reference to a seam detail used in garment construction. The result being a unified series characterised by clean lines, fluid contours and refined design detail – contrasted by an inherently robust construction and hard-wearing tactility.
The Seam collection is prominent Australian designer Adam Cornish’s first collection for Tait. In manufacturing their first chair to hero sheet metal, Seam breaks new ground for the brand in a departure from the signature wire chair designs for which they are renowned. “Although fabric and sheet metal seem worlds apart, the tailoring process used to construct shapes is surprisingly similar” says Cornish.
The Seam collection forms a family of seating and tables designed for a variety of applications. Comprising six typologies, the collection includes dining chair, stacking chair, bar stool, dining table, café table and bar table. Spanning commercial to residential applications including hospitality, breakout, alfresco and balconies, the Seam collection is designed for outdoor use, though is equally at home indoors.
The Seam collection is personified through a rich and earthy colour palette, making reference to Australian coastlines, terrains and flora – hues include Deep Ocean, Paperbark, Ochre, Pale Eucalypt and Woodland Grey. The shell is formed form sheet aluminium and finished in hard-wearing, UV-stable, textured powder coat. The chair, stool and dining table legs are available in either powder coated stainless steel or variation of finished timbers. The café and bar table pedestal leg is available powder coated or in a variation of finished timbers.
