Evolving a classic

When it was time to offer more planter shapes, we started with a simple question: start a new range, or build on one we already know works? ‘The Softline Planter has been a favourite for many years,’ explains Creative Director Susan Tait. ‘Its visual simplicity provides an elegant base that grounds and complements planting. And the durable aluminium construction makes it a sturdy choice for public spaces like high-traffic commercial, hospitality, multi-residential and retail projects.’ So we decided to evolve this proven design, to keep the collections consistent and avoid any obsolescence. The original Square and Rectangle forms are now joined by new D-Shape, Pill and Circular shapes, along with Curved Square, Curved Rectangle and Curved Triangle designs. These dynamic new forms are possible through the investment of new skills and technology – an Italian Plate Rolling Machine.

Whilst all Square and Rectangle designs showcase the elegant rounded corner detail that gives Softline its name, Curved variations (left) feature a subtle convex curve in the edge profile, whilst the regular versions (right) have a straight edge profile.

Design-elevating details

Available in several standard sizes, in a standard powder coat range of 22 colours to choose from, Softline Planters can also be made in a custom sizes and colours (with minimum quantities). This flexibility makes the collection ideal for commercial settings, from workplace foyers and hospitality venues to public courtyards and rooftops, and for indoor and outdoor spaces alike. The details are considered, too. Concealed castors add mobility, while risers provide stability where a planter needs to stay put. Drainage holes in the base plate keep plants healthy when direct-planted outdoors (with optional mulch plate), or choose a sealed base and flower bucket for interior applications. Square and Rectangle designs can either have a straight-edged profile with a sharper look that also adjoins neatly when placed in group settings, or a curved-edge profile with more softness.

New forms are available in various colours, sizes and heights.

Made to last, designed for renewal

Designed and made in Australia from recyclable aluminium, Softline planters are backed by a 10-year structural warranty, and designed to be refurbished. That means when your client moves, their planters can go with them. And if a space simply needs a refresh, the same planters can be updated rather than replaced. ‘Our products are designed for longevity, so that they don’t become landfill,’ Founding Director Gordon Tait explains. ‘The intention is for Softline to become part of workplaces, public spaces, and homes for years to come – not just a season.’ For clients and projects with environmental objectives, it’s a practical, cost-conscious approach that keeps quality furniture in use and out of the waste stream.

Enhancing worklife with biophilia

Greenery is more than decoration. Biophilic design, which includes nature-based elements such as planters, has been shown to improve employee health and wellbeing, as well as productivity. In a competitive market for talent, a workplace that feels good to be in can help attract and retain great people. Softline planters make it easy to bring that greenery into offices, lobbies, breakout spaces and terraces, becoming points of interest within a space, or even as subtle zone definition and circulation cues.
