In traditional Noongar language, ‘Moort’ means family, and this is exactly what this Aboriginal-owned and led design practice is based on. A 20-year partnership between Noongar artist Peter Farmer and contemporary Australian artist and designer Jason Hirst has inspired ongoing narrative-based design collaborations, formalised under the name Moort Designs. We at Tait are honoured to become part of that extended moort/family, bringing our manufacturing expertise to a partnership that brings together Aboriginal cultural knowledge, contemporary design and world class Australian manufacturing to deliver a collection of exceptional quality for the public realm.
Family, community and connection to Country are at the heart of Moort’s philosophy, with furniture designs that bring people together and celebrate the story of place. Moort products are suited to, and intended for, public spaces like universities, retail and civic environments – where the larger symbolic family gathers. Each piece within the Moort collection is inspired by a cultural symbol that reflects its purpose and meaning, and carries a Noongar name. In this way, stories of Country, movement, gathering and connection that have been shared across generations are embedded into the designs, rather than just serving as decorative motifs. Whether gathering outdoors, or inside foyers, entrance halls, council and community spaces, Moort pieces help bring the experience and stories of Country to life.

All Moort pieces are crafted in powdercoated aluminium – durable, recyclable and surface-mounted via base plates – making them perfectly suited to parks, schools, universities, and any kind of public or civic setting.
Nyin Chair
Inspired by the Noongar word meaning ‘to sit’, the Nyin Chair embodies sculptural simplicity. Its singular loop form gently invites both gathering and circulation when arranged in multiples, creating a calm and grounded presence.
Nyin Table
The Nyin Table carries forward the same sculptural language and continuous curved frame as the Nyin Chair, with an integrated curved plate gently rising to form the tabletop to support moments of pause, meeting and shared use.
Biddi Rack
The Biddi Bicycle Rack is a modular system based on the Noongar word for journey, following the gentle lines that move across Country, tracing paths that connect people, stories and place.
Boorn Planter
Inspired by the Noongar word for ‘tree’, the Boorn Planter reflects ideas of growth, grounding and quiet strength of the natural world.
Kaat Bench
The Kaat Bench draws from the ‘mountains’ and ‘hills’ of Noongar Country, both in name and through the rhythmic contours of its form.
