As part of the Melbourne Design Week program, we’re proud to present ’30 Years of Tait’ a retrospective exhibition curated by Marsha Golemac.

A retrospective exhibition that inspires interaction and curiosity, join us to celebrate the rich history of Tait and our team of Australian designers and craftspeople. From the hammer to the robot, this 30-year activation explores early works, insights, unexpected paths, and the sustainable future of Tait. Our 30 Years of Tait exhibition will also coincide with the launch of our new collection.

Numbulwar Pop-Up Studio And Exhibition

Numbulwar Numburindi Arts, a collective of Indigenous artists, together with Agency and contemporary furniture company, Tait, will host a unique pop-up studio and exhibition this Melbourne Design Week to draw focus on the significant environmental threat of discarded ghost nets, which account for around 40% of all ocean plastic.

This year, we mark a special event – our 30th birthday! We are both humbled and honoured to celebrate this milestone.

Celebrating our 30th anniversary provides a sense of nostalgia – a chance to reflect on three decades of designing and handcrafting our pieces in Australia from sustainable materials, pieces reflective of our enviable outdoor lifestyle, informed by a distinctly Australian palette and built to withstand diverse climate conditions.

About Tait

Established in 1992 by husband and wife, Gordon and Susan Tait, Tait began in a small factory in Melbourne, Australia. Gordon, a sheet metal craftsman, and Susan, a creative textile designer, noticed an absence for well-designed, well-made outdoor products – both reflective of Australia’s enviable outdoor lifestyle and built to withstand the harsh Australian elements.

Numbulwar Pop-Up Studio And Exhibition

Numbulwar Numburindi Arts, a collective of Indigenous artists, together with Agency and contemporary furniture company, Tait, will host a unique pop-up studio and exhibition this Melbourne Design Week to draw focus on the significant environmental threat of discarded ghost nets, which account for around 40% of all ocean plastic.

100% community-owned and controlled, Numbulwar Numburindi Arts fosters the practice and engagement of traditional culture, with artists skilfully merging naturally-dyed and locally-harvested pandanus with ghost nets, abandoned fishing lines that wash up on Numbulwar’s shoreline.
